Martin Jones G (SJ) – San Jose’s new starting goaltender has been great this year. He allowed 4 goals in a loss on Monday but still posts a 1.18 GAA and .957 save-percentage with 2 shutouts in 5 games. Some may have wondered how much of a timeshare Jones would be involved in with Stalock, but Jones has proved he is a true #1 goalie. Yahoo sports has him ranked as the 133rd overall fantasy player, but I would currently place him in the top-50.
Kyle Turris C (Ott) – He scored a career high 64 points last season, and I though that would be his peak and that he may regress a bit this year. So far that has not been the case, with 4 goals, 4 assists, +5 rating in 6 games. Maybe this should have been expected as he has improved on his point production in each of the last 4 years in Ottawa. He is still only 26 and well on his way to another career year.
Torey Krug D (Bos) – Krug is the go-to offensive dman in Boston this year. In their last game he played about 85% of his teams pp-time. He has 6 assists (5 on the PP) and 16 shots in 5 games this year. After seasons of 40 and 39 points the last couple years, he should post a career high this year, and may even get close to 60.
Sergei Bobrovsky G (Cls) – Before the season I ranked him as the 44th overall fantasy player here. Columbus was supposed to be one of the most improved teams in the NHL this year, but have started the season with 6-straight losses, allowing a league-high 30 goals (the next highest is 21). Bob has a 5.07 GAA and .835 save-percentage. He may be a good buy-low candidate, but so far it has not looked good. If I was re-ranking every player he would be outside the top-100.
Matt Duchene C/LW (Col) – The MacKinnon line is now the top line in Colorado as Duchene hasn’t been producing as much as hoped in the past year. He was never a guy that got many PIMs or SOGs anyway, limiting his upside. He has started the season with 1 point in 5 games and a -5 rating on 6 shots. We know he has skill but he’s not a great fantasy player. Yahoo Sports has him ranked as the 74th overall fantasy player, but he should be closer to 150.
Mike Green D (Det) – The offensive defenseman has had a rough start to the season with his new team. He has 1 assist in 5 games, but it’s even more concerning that he only has 3 shots. He is still playing on the top pp-unit and should pick up his pace a bit, however he is not the same defenseman he once was. Yahoo Sports has him ranked as the 102nd overall fantasy player, but I would put him somewhere in between 150 and 200.
